As the premier organization representing rural and small libraries, ARSL recognizes the uniqueness of small and rural libraries and is committed to providing an environment that encourages excellence within this community of practice, supporting their goals of service and speaking on behalf of this important constituency.

ARSL Values

Accessibility:  Providing equitable services, events, and information that are inclusive of all and reflect the diversity of our community.

Responsive Service: Acting with initiative, creativity, and flexibility, and utilizing technology to provide high quality service that is timely and relevant to member needs.

Intellectual Freedom:  Dedicated to defending free and unhindered access to information and supporting library users’ right to privacy.

ARSL 2024-27 Strategic Plan

The Association for Rural & Small Libraries (ARSL) is a member-run organization representing library professionals serving communities across North America for more than 40 years. ARSL provides advocacy, networking, and continuing educational opportunities that meet the specific needs of small and rural libraries to ensure its members can continue to advance and enhance their professional skills.

Adopted in 2024, this strategic plan is a living document that serves as a roadmap that the staff, board, and membership use to keep ARSL's work focused and effective. ARSL reviews our strategic goals regularly to be sure they align with the evolving needs of the organization and its constituents. Our current plan will guide ARSL into 2027 and beyond.
